Thessaloniki is a lively, unique city every day of the year, but it becomes an even more beautiful backdrop for a wedding.

Whether you have already decided to get married in Thessaloniki, Greece, or you are still searching for the perfect destination for your celebration, the city offers a wonderful combination of Mediterranean atmosphere, history, excellent food, sea views and contemporary city life. From rooftops overlooking the city to beautiful gardens, seaside venues and hotels with pools, Thessaloniki offers a variety of possibilities for couples looking to celebrate in Northern Greece.

Here is everything you need to know about celebrating your wedding in this vibrant Mediterranean city.

The Basics
Thessaloniki combines a long waterfront, walkable streets, historic neighborhoods, a passion for food and a relaxed Mediterranean spirit.

It is Greece's second-largest city and metropolitan area, with more than one million people living across the wider Thessaloniki metropolitan area. It is also one of the country's most important economic, commercial and transportation centers and a major gateway to Northern Greece and Southeastern Europe. At the same time, Thessaloniki manages to feel intimate and easy to enjoy. The sea is always close, cafés and restaurants spill out onto the streets, and centuries of history sit alongside contemporary architecture, nightlife and culture.

The main wedding season runs from late spring through early autumn, with May, June and September among the most popular months for outdoor weddings. July and August bring the unmistakable atmosphere of a Greek summer and long, warm evenings.

Getting There and Getting Around
Thessaloniki is served by Thessaloniki Airport "Makedonia" (SKG), the main airport of Northern Greece. The airport connects Thessaloniki with Athens and numerous international destinations, with additional seasonal connections during the warmer months. The city center itself is compact and very walkable. Hotels, restaurants, cafés, shopping streets, historic monuments and the waterfront are all relatively close to one another.

The Thessaloniki Metro provides a convenient way to move around the city, connecting key areas of central Thessaloniki and making it even easier for visitors to explore. Taxis are also widely available, while private buses and minibuses are commonly used for wedding transportation between hotels, churches and reception venues.

Weather
Thessaloniki enjoys hot summers, mild transitional seasons and cooler winters. Spring gradually becomes warmer from April onwards, while May and June are particularly beautiful months for weddings, with longer days and warm weather. July and August are the hottest months of the year, with warm evenings that lend themselves naturally to outdoor celebrations.

September is another favorite wedding month in Thessaloniki, combining late-summer weather with slightly milder temperatures, while the first weeks of October can still offer lovely conditions for an outdoor event. The warmer months are especially suited to the city's rooftop, garden, poolside and seaside wedding venues.

Wedding Accommodations & Transportation
As a major Greek city, Thessaloniki offers a wide choice of accommodation for wedding guests. There are luxury five-star hotels, international hotel brands, design-led boutique properties, historic hotels, serviced apartments and more affordable options throughout the city.

Many of the most popular hotels are located around the waterfront and city center, giving visitors easy access to Aristotelous Square, Ladadika, restaurants, cafés, shopping and many of Thessaloniki's landmarks. The combination of accommodation, transportation options and a compact city center makes Thessaloniki particularly attractive for weddings with guests arriving from different parts of Greece and abroad.
